Yellowstone Crash: Deadly Crossing

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Illinois resulted in at least six fatalities and multiple injuries. The accident occurred when a semi-truck traveling southbound crossed the center median and struck two passenger vehicles in the northbound lanes. The initial crash caused one of the passenger vehicles to catch fire.

Illinois State Police reported that in addition to the fatalities, several people were transported to local hospitals with injuries, though the exact number and severity remain unconfirmed. The northbound lanes of I-57 were shut down for several hours as emergency responders worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the crash. Traffic was diverted as authorities worked to manage the significant backup.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is now investigating the accident. The investigation will focus on determining the factors that led to the semi-truck crossing the median, potentially including driver fatigue, mechanical failure, or road conditions. The identities of the deceased have not been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.
