Dacara’s Shadow

Dacara Thompson, a 16-year-old from Washington, D.C., who had been missing since February 12, 2024, has been confirmed dead. Her body was found in the Anacostia River on April 19th and positively identified. The Metropolitan Police Department has stated that the death is currently under investigation, but preliminary information suggests no foul play is suspected.

Dacara was last seen in the 4600 block of Benning Road SE. Her disappearance prompted a widespread search effort by family, friends, community members, and law enforcement, including the deployment of drones and dive teams to scour the river. The search spanned several weeks, fueled by social media campaigns and local media coverage.

The circumstances surrounding Dacara’s disappearance and death remain unclear, and the police investigation is ongoing. The medical examiner’s office is working to determine the cause of death. The Thompson family and the community are grieving the loss, and the police department has expressed its condolences.
