Norway’s Shift: Labour Returns, Far-Right Surges

In Norway’s recent general election, the Labour Party (AP) secured the largest share of votes at 28.0%, translating to 53 seats in the Storting. While the “left” bloc collectively obtained a majority with 88 seats, paving the way for Jonas Gahr Støre’s potential reelection as Prime Minister, the most significant electoral advancement was made by the far-right Progress Party (FRP). The FRP experienced a substantial surge in popularity, doubling its support and gaining considerable traction in the political landscape. The overall outcome indicates a fragmented political spectrum with both the traditional left maintaining influence and the far-right gaining notable ground.
