Shattered Justice: Jones Execution in Florida

In 2025, the state executed Victor Jones, a survivor of the Okeechobee School for Boys, a facility notorious for its history of brutal child abuse. Despite the state’s official acknowledgement of Jones as a victim of this abuse, his execution proceeded, marking the state’s 13th execution of the year. The Okeechobee School, also known as the Florida School for Boys, was infamous for its systematic physical and sexual abuse of children under its care for decades. Jones’s case highlights the paradox of the state recognizing the damage inflicted upon him as a child while simultaneously carrying out his execution.
