Gaza: Blockade’s Grip

Following a blockade of food and humanitarian aid, the Israeli government declared a complete shutdown of electricity to Gaza. This escalation is part of Israel’s response to military actions by Hamas and other Palestinian groups, including rocket attacks into Israeli territory.

Israeli officials stated that the measure is a necessary response to the security situation and will remain in effect until further notice. This decision intensifies the already dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the majority of the population relies on external aid and electricity for basic needs.

The electricity cutoff is expected to have severe consequences for hospitals, water supplies, sanitation systems, and other essential services. International organizations and human rights groups have expressed grave concerns about the collective punishment of the Gazan population, arguing that it violates international law. They warn that the electricity cutoff, combined with the existing blockade, will further exacerbate the already precarious living conditions and could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe. Calls for Israel to restore electricity and allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza have been issued.
