Afrikaner Asylum

This article from the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS) critiques the political climate in South Africa, arguing that despite the formal end of apartheid, deep-seated racial and class inequalities persist. The article focuses on the upcoming elections and condemns the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC) for promoting nationalism and racial division, rather than addressing the fundamental issues of poverty and inequality.

It argues that these parties are using scapegoating tactics, particularly targeting immigrants and refugees, to deflect blame from their own failures. The author contrasts this scapegoating with the historical treatment of white South Africans, suggesting a disparity in how different racial groups are perceived and treated by the government and media.

The article posits that neither the ANC nor the EFF offers a genuine solution to the country’s economic problems, and that their policies ultimately serve the interests of a wealthy elite, both black and white. The author calls for a socialist alternative, advocating for the unity of the working class across racial and national lines to fight for economic justice and equality. It urges readers to reject racial nationalism and instead embrace international socialist principles as the only path to overcoming the legacy of apartheid and building a truly equal society.
