WA Labor: Swing State Survival

The Labor Party secured victory in Saturday’s Western Australian (WA) state election, propelled by substantial financial backing from the mining industry and other influential business sectors. While Labor achieved a win, the outcome was largely attributed to the exceptionally poor performance of the opposition Liberal and National parties.

The collapse of the opposition vote resulted in a landslide victory for Labor, solidifying their control over the state parliament. This electoral outcome reflects a significant shift in the political landscape of WA, where the traditional dominance of the Liberal and National parties has been severely challenged. The business support underscores the party’s ties to corporate interests, and raises questions about the extent to which government policies will reflect the needs of workers and the broader population versus business.
