Merz’s Genocide Pact

The article argues that a resolution passed by the German parliament regarding antisemitism is a political tool to legitimize and perpetuate support for Israel’s actions in Gaza, which the article characterizes as a genocide. It claims the resolution conflates criticism of Israeli policies with antisemitism, effectively silencing dissent and critical analysis of the Israeli state. The article contends that this conflation allows the German ruling class to maintain its allegiance to Israel despite the escalating violence and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Furthermore, the article suggests that the resolution serves to shield Israel from international scrutiny and accountability for its actions. It posits that by equating criticism of Israel with antisemitism, any attempt to challenge or condemn Israeli policies can be dismissed as motivated by prejudice, thus hindering efforts to hold Israel accountable under international law. This political maneuvering, according to the article, is designed to perpetuate Germany’s support for Israel, regardless of the ethical and humanitarian implications of the conflict in Gaza. The author implies this is a calculated move to maintain Germany’s geopolitical alignment and protect its interests in the region.
