Mahdawi’s Freedom

Sueda Polat and Columbia University student activist Khymani James, who was recently suspended for advocating violence against Zionists, were recently interviewed on the Mehdi Hasan Show. The interview focused on the pro-Palestinian protests and the university’s response, including suspensions and doxxing of students.

The piece argues that the university administration, aided by media outlets and politicians, is suppressing dissent and conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism. The interview highlighted the activists’ perspective on the protests, framing them as a fight against genocide and for Palestinian liberation. Polat defended the use of slogans like “From the River to the Sea,” stating they represent a call for equality and freedom for Palestinians.

The WSWS article claims the university’s actions are part of a broader attack on democratic rights and freedom of speech, driven by a right-wing campaign to silence opposition to Israeli policies. It criticizes the media’s portrayal of the protests and alleges a smear campaign targeting student activists, including James, who was a leading figure against Israel’s actions in Gaza at Columbia University.
