Ant Traffickers’ Kenyan Sentence

Two Belgian teenagers, aged 17 and 19, were found dead in the French Pyrenees after going missing during a hiking trip. The experienced hikers had set off from the resort town of Gourette on Wednesday and were expected to return that evening, but failed to do so. Authorities launched a search operation involving mountain rescue specialists, dogs, and a helicopter.

The search was hampered by poor weather conditions, including fog and rain. Their bodies were eventually discovered on Thursday morning in a steep, hard-to-reach area known as the Canal de Labassa, at an altitude of around 6,500 feet (2,000 meters). The area is known for its challenging terrain and is considered difficult even in good weather.

While the exact cause of death remains under investigation, authorities suspect they fell while traversing the treacherous terrain. The Pau prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding their deaths. The teenagers were described as experienced hikers familiar with mountain environments, but the challenging conditions likely contributed to the tragic outcome. Their families have been notified.
