He warned of the erosion of democratic rights under the guise of national security and counter-terrorism, citing the suppression of dissent and the expansion of surveillance powers.
Paxton called upon young people and workers internationally to recognize the historical significance of May Day as a day of international working-class solidarity and to organize a conscious political struggle against capitalism. He urged them to join the International Youth and Students for Social Equality and the Socialist Equality Parties to build a powerful, global movement based on socialist principles to overthrow capitalism and establish a socialist society. The speech stressed the urgency of building a revolutionary leadership capable of challenging the existing political order and fighting for a future free from war, exploitation, and social inequality.
