Alaskan Cargo Blaze: All Hands Safe

A fire erupted on a cargo ship named the MV SSL Kolkata, carrying containers, approximately 13 nautical miles off the coast of West Bengal, India. The Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued all 22 crew members. The ship was en route from Haldia to Kolkata when the fire broke out.

The Coast Guard dispatched vessels and a Dornier aircraft to assess the situation and assist in the rescue operation. Despite initial reports of possible oil spills, no pollution was detected. The Coast Guard coordinated efforts to contain the fire and prevent environmental damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the Coast Guard is actively monitoring the vessel’s position and any potential hazards. Salvage operations are underway to address the damaged ship and prevent any further incidents. The prompt response of the Coast Guard ensured the safety of the crew and minimized potential environmental consequences.
