A new report by Oxfam Australia reveals the staggering concentration of wealth in the country, highlighting a growing chasm between the rich and the poor. The report indicates that the 200 wealthiest Australians now possess a combined wealth of $667 billion, representing an increase of $42 billion from the previous year. This concentration of wealth is particularly striking, as it accounts for more than 36 percent of Australia’s annual gross domestic product.
The report serves as a stark reminder of increasing social inequality. This extreme concentration of riches in the hands of a tiny elite has far-reaching consequences for Australian society, exacerbating economic disparities and undermining social cohesion.
