A container ship, the MV Polaris, struck a U.S. Navy dry cargo and ammunition ship, the USNS Supply (T-AOE 6), during a replenishment-at-sea operation in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Guam. The incident occurred on Monday morning, causing damage to both vessels but no injuries were reported among the crews.

The USNS Supply, operated by the Military Sealift Command, was conducting a routine underway replenishment when the collision happened. The Navy is currently assessing the full extent of the damage to both ships and investigating the cause of the incident.

The Polaris, flagged in the Marshall Islands and managed by a Greek shipping company, is reportedly headed to Busan, South Korea. While the exact nature of the operation and the cargo being transferred during the replenishment are unclear, such operations are crucial for maintaining the Navy’s forward presence and extending its operational range by providing essential supplies, fuel, and ammunition while at sea. The incident is under investigation to determine the factors that led to the collision and prevent future occurrences.
