RISE: Desert Dust-Up

Attendees of the Rise Festival in Nevada expressed widespread disappointment and frustration due to significant logistical issues. The festival, known for its mass lantern release, faced problems including hours-long waits for shuttle buses in the desert heat, insufficient water and shade, and disorganized lantern distribution.

Many attendees reported waiting for over four hours in scorching temperatures with limited access to water, leading to concerns about dehydration and heatstroke. The promised “festival experience” was largely absent, with many feeling stranded and neglected.

The lantern release itself, the main draw of the event, was marred by disorganization. Many attendees didn’t receive their lanterns until late in the evening, further compounding their frustrations. Some lanterns also failed to light properly or were damaged.

Social media was flooded with complaints and demands for refunds. The event organizers have responded acknowledging the issues and stating they are working to address concerns, but have not yet offered a comprehensive plan for compensation. The overall sentiment among attendees was one of severe disappointment, with many considering the event a poorly managed and potentially dangerous experience.
