Echoes of Empire

The article argues that the growing alliance between Australia, the United States, and Papua New Guinea (PNG) under the guise of a “Pacific family” is a deceptive maneuver to further imperialist interests, specifically against China. It alleges that the security agreement signed between PNG and the US, followed by Australia’s increased involvement, isn’t about genuine cooperation or development, but rather about exploiting PNG’s strategic location and resources for military purposes.

The author contends that these agreements will undermine PNG’s sovereignty, turning it into a staging ground for potential conflict with China. They point to historical examples of colonial exploitation to highlight the risks PNG faces. Furthermore, the article criticizes the PNG government for allegedly prioritizing its own interests over the well-being of its people by aligning with these imperialist powers.

The author accuses the US and Australia of seeking to control PNG’s resources and military infrastructure to contain China’s growing influence in the region. They view this as a dangerous escalation of geopolitical tensions and a threat to the stability of the Pacific. The concept of a “Pacific family,” in this context, is dismissed as propaganda designed to mask the true nature of the neo-colonial relationship.
