New Kenya Trap

The article analyzes the Communist Party of Kenya (CPM-K), arguing that despite its name, it is a pro-capitalist and nationalist entity. The piece asserts that the CPM-K primarily serves the interests of certain factions within the Kenyan bourgeoisie and middle class, rather than representing the working class. It highlights the CPM-K’s alignment with sections of the elite who are dissatisfied with Kenya’s current dependence on the United States. These elites reportedly view China as a more financially beneficial partner for Kenya. Therefore, the CPM-K is portrayed as positioning itself as a political alternative for these disgruntled elites, advocating for a shift in Kenya’s international alliances towards China to advance their economic interests. The article suggests that the party’s communist label is a misnomer and that its true agenda is rooted in serving the economic aspirations of a specific segment of Kenya’s capitalist class.
