EMEA at Work

Across the globe, workers are engaging in strikes and protests driven by economic hardship, eroded benefits, and deteriorating working conditions. In France, dockers and port workers initiated a 24-hour strike to demonstrate their opposition to pension reforms and attacks on leave entitlements. This action is part of a broader wave of discontent sweeping France over proposed changes to the retirement system.

Meanwhile, in Iran, protests continue amongst nurses, medical staff, and pensioners, highlighting the severe impact of plummeting living standards on the population. These demonstrations underscore the growing economic pressures facing Iranian citizens and their dissatisfaction with the current economic climate.

Further afield, doctors in Nairobi, Kenya, have launched a strike in response to a series of grievances, including unjustified sackings, a lack of promotions, and the persistent issue of unpaid wages. This action reflects the widespread frustration within the Kenyan healthcare system and the demand for improved labor practices and fair compensation. These simultaneous events across continents highlight a global pattern of worker unrest fueled by economic insecurity and perceived injustices in labor practices and social welfare systems.
