Students Silenced: Columbia 9 Arrested

Students at Barnard College, part of Columbia University, occupied Milstein Library in a pro-Palestinian demonstration, prompting the administration to call in the NYPD. This marks the second building occupation at the university within a week, reflecting escalating tensions and student activism related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The students are protesting the university’s investments in companies with ties to Israel and demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. The university administration views the occupation as a violation of campus rules and a disruption to university operations, hence the decision to involve law enforcement. The NYPD’s presence underscores the seriousness with which the university is treating the protests.
