The Dye Decision

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is urging major food companies to transition away from processed foods and embrace healthier alternatives, arguing that ultra-processed foods are a major contributor to the chronic disease epidemic in the United States. Speaking at a Functional Forum gathering, Kennedy criticized the prevalence of additives and chemicals in processed foods, linking them to rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and other health problems.

He highlighted the influence of the food industry on government policies, suggesting that lobbying efforts have allowed unhealthy ingredients to remain in the food supply despite scientific evidence of their harm. Kennedy emphasized the importance of consumer demand in driving change, calling on companies to prioritize health and sustainability over profits. He specifically called out companies to work with regenerative agriculture farmers to source higher quality ingredients, rather than continuing to use cheaper and more heavily processed ingredients.

Kennedy warned that the current trajectory of the food industry is unsustainable and detrimental to public health, asserting that a shift towards whole, unprocessed foods is necessary to reverse the trend of chronic disease and improve the overall well-being of Americans. His message was one of urgency and a call for the food industry to take responsibility for its role in the nation’s health crisis.
