United Airlines is ending its longest domestic flight, a route connecting Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey to Honolulu International Airport (HNL) in Hawaii, effective October 27, 2024. The flight, covering approximately 4,962 miles, has been in operation for years and was known for its duration, lasting roughly 10-11 hours.

The discontinuation of the Newark-Honolulu route is part of a broader strategy shift by United. The airline is focusing on optimizing its network and concentrating on other routes that demonstrate higher profitability and passenger demand.

While the Newark-Honolulu service is ending, United will continue to serve Honolulu from other major hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. This ensures continued access to Hawaii for passengers, albeit potentially requiring connections for those originating from the New York metropolitan area. Passengers booked on flights after October 27 will be contacted by United and offered alternative travel arrangements or refunds.
