Walloper’s Gaza Roar

protest in london with palestinian flag

At the Palestine Writes Literature Festival held at the University of Pennsylvania, the band 47Soul, known for its blend of Arabic folk music and electronic beats, was silenced and censored during their performance for displaying a Palestinian flag and chanting “Free Palestine.” The incident occurred midway through their opening song, when festival staff abruptly cut off the band’s sound system and removed the flag. The audience responded with disapproval, booing the action and chanting, “Let them play,” in protest of the censorship. The censorship of 47Soul sparked outrage and criticism, with many viewing it as an attack on freedom of expression and solidarity with Palestine. The event highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding discussions about Palestine and the limitations imposed on artistic expression within certain contexts.
