Louisiana State Police released a video explaining why former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was charged in connection to a fatal car crash that occurred in October 2022. The crash resulted in the death of 51-year-old Lake Charles woman, Jeanette Stinger.
According to the police investigation, Lacy was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck at a high rate of speed on Interstate 10 near Lake Charles. Evidence suggests Lacy was racing another vehicle, a Dodge Charger, driven by Averie Grimes. Stinger’s vehicle was struck by Lacy’s truck after he attempted to change lanes, causing her vehicle to cross the median and collide head-on with another car.
The video highlights forensic evidence, including data retrieved from both Lacy’s and Grimes’ vehicles, that indicates excessive speed prior to the collision. Witnesses also corroborated the racing allegation. Police confirmed that Stinger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Lacy has been charged with negligent homicide and reckless operation of a vehicle. Grimes was also charged with reckless operation of a vehicle. The investigation revealed no evidence of impairment in either driver. The video aims to provide transparency regarding the investigation’s findings and the basis for the charges against Lacy and Grimes.
